Profile: Tomaso Agricola

Personal background
Tomaso is working as an assistant professor at a medical department of one of the many universities in Holland. His main research subject is sleep regulation. This means that he can spend more than 8 hours a day on sleep (which is nice).

Tomaso has studied biology in the Netherlands and than did the work for his Ph.D. thesis in Zwitserland (thesis defence in Holland). After a post-doc year in the US, a 3-year postdoc in Zwitserland he finally made it back to Holland for (yet again) a 4 year postdoc. This last postdoc ended in a permanent position.

As a teenager I had this dream of becoming an exobiologist, but there were not that many opportunities at that time. Studying the regulation of a behaviour which has been shaped by the movement of our planet turned out to be very interesting as well.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Why do you run SETI@home?

As the only species capable of doing so, I think we have the obligation to look for extraterrestial intelligence, and since my computer now and then sits there doing nothing this is a great opportunity for me to do my part of the chore.

2. What are your views about the project?

I find it hard to estimate the chance of finding something, but even if the chance is small I think it is still an important project for the planet. We shouldn\\\\\\'t give up.

3. Any suggestions?

Not at the moment
