Profile: Paul Mauer

Personal background
I was enlisted in the Air Force for 4 years and got stuck in the armpit of the world (Holloman AFB, NM). So after having experienced that, I decided to go civilian. My brothers are both still in the service and my dad retired from the AF. So you can see I'm from an Air Force family. Currently I test software for Microsoft and am quite happy with it. I look back on my Air Force days happy that I joined but just wishing I'd had better assignments. Oh well!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Being a computer geek, when I heard about SETI I naturally thought it was a great idea. I don't think we'll find ET this way. I think it's more likely that we'd find them when they find us. But I keep all my machines plugging away for SETI just in case. (I've been wrong before) I think it would be a great thing if SETI DOES find intelligence out there that they ought to publish the name of the individual(s) responsible for running those work units on their computer. Kind of like a "thank you it wasn't a waste of time after all."
