Profile: David Finell

Personal background
I retired as a broadcast engineer for the Air Force in 2009. I joined as a wideband Comm tech and my career field split and morphed over the years. I have done wideband comm, Security Systems (BISS), Ground Radio, and Radio and Television Systems. I have a BFA from UTSA with a concentration in photography and minor in Art History and Criticism (Cum Laude). I also have Associate Degrees in Electronics and Fine Arts. I am an Extra Class Amateur Radio Operator and a VE. My call is N7LRY. I still do electronics as a hobby and enjoy home-brewing, kit building, and electronic repair. I run Macs at home because I feel they are built to better quality than most other computers for the same price and they have respectable performance. My current machine was built in early 2008 and still outperforms most computers on the market (as of 2014).
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I have enormous respect for the scientists who have worked to develop shared computing. Our technology is evolving at a staggering rate. I do not feel that the masses or many more educated people have the wisdom or adequate understanding of modern technology and all of its implications. I would hope that even the discovery of an alternative sentient civilization might force some greater terrestrial evolution, if not physically then morally and ethically.
