Personal background
I'm a music ed major at the University of Iowa with a minor in Astronomy. My hobbies include computers....(Apple computers), Astrophotography, biking, rollerblading, and reading. I love astronomy so much to the point that if math came easily to me, I might have a different career path. When I'm not listening to/conducting music, or looking up at the sky, I'm maintaining my 1974 Imperial LeBaron. My next project is to buy a 12'' SCT and build a modest observatory in my backyard wherever I end up someday. So, probably in about 10 years. :)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI because even though my computer is one lowly computer searching through amounts of data, it may help give another computer the edge or time needed to discover something truly incredible. The SETI for me, is fascinating. It may take decades or even centuries for us to discover with hard proof that we aren't alone, but the point is that we're looking, and we have to start somewhere. No matter how mundane or pointless it seems, you always have to start somewhere, and I'm glad to be a part of it, even if it takes my computer days to get through one chunk of data. I'm sure that out there, among the stars, the answers lie. We just have to be patient and wait for the right moment to discover them.
