Personal background
All about me-
I've always been fascinated by astronomy, but until this last year, I never had the time to get into it seriously. Last summer, I became a member of the South Plains Astronomy Club. Since then I've learned a lot and have become an avid astronomer (as well as president of the club).
I'm currently working on a master's degree in Software Engineering at Texas Tech University and searching for ways to combine software with my astronomy projects. I'm currently experimenting with connecting laptops up to my LX-200 telescope as well as astrophotography in general. I'm still working on deep sky stuff, but the sun and moon are coming out pretty well.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The SETI project is an interesting concept, and the question is: "Does other life exist other than mankind?" I am convinced that there is life other than man. Whether or not it exists to the point where man can detect it is something I'm not sure of. The SETI project is the first logical step in the process of finding out. If our computers and detectors are good enough, and our scientists astute enough, then maybe we'll find something. What we will find... well that is something best left to the future.
