Personal background |
A 7th-generation Aussie, happily a grandad, retired industrial chemist, now ISO 9001 auditor. Been playing (and being paid for it!) with computers since 1970, and astronomy since I was 8, SETI@home was a natural necessity. I've now upped the home setup from one Athlon 1.2GHz to a couple of AMD 2400 's and a p/4 2800. Sweet!

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I love astronomy, ever since my grandma pointed out the Southern Cross from the dark skies of Wagga Wagga when I was about 8. I have always wondered whether "they" are out there. Our search will succeed, mainly because enough of us are unwilling to accept the thought that we are alone in the universe. Thus we won't give up looking because the wet blankets around want these adventures pointed to more mundane matters.
Once we become aware of the truth of ET life - whether intelligent or not - our internal squabbles will be seen as just that, spats between children. Grow up, smell the flowers, we are part of a much much larger whole!
SETI@home may not discover signs of life but that's no disincentive to looking. Questing after the unknown is a typical human activity, after all. Why else do we have children? |
