Profile: Rude Sandelius

Personal background
I'm a happily married man, born december 29th in the year 1953 in Nynäshamn, a little town south of the capital of Sweden, Stockholm. Currently living in Lulea, a town just south of the polarcircle in the north of Sweden.
My profession? Journalism and writing.
I'm a fan of the online strategic wargame Stellar Crisis.
My most fervent wish is that we (the people of Earth)someday will come to the understanding that we are a small tribe on a lonely planet that need to unite if we ever want to reach the stars.
I also hope that we will find life with intelligent leadership out there since it obviously doesn't exist on this planet :)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Inside 25 years the humanity will discover extraterrestial life outside our solar system, my guess would by SETI or a similar project. Hopefully we are fully prepared psychologically by then and the discovery will not create any significant panic.
The discovery will boost just about everything here. Engineering, science you name it. Hopefully small territorial disputes will disappear along with terrorism. I also do not believe that a negative culture chock will the result, rather the other way around. The only danger, if we allowed it, would be a militaristic paranoia. Sure, we should not adopt a pacifistic view of the universe but not an overly agressive stance either.
2. There is no need for humans to transmit anything. We already do that. Maybe a signal lie "do not believe our advertisements" and "if you signal us please bypass our politicians" :)
3. Meager as my contribution is I feel like I'm part of something bigger than our society. It feels like I'm doing something useful for all of humanity such as it is.
My view of the SETI project is that it is one of the most important project in our time along with ISS and a possible expedition to Mars.
Finally I'd like to have some sort of "newsflash" letter. Nothing big but just a reminder, maybe monthly, to let the "SETI-community" in on what's happening.
