Personal background
Hi there all!

My name is Scott and I am married with three children (all boys). My wife and I have been married for 22 years and our children are 18, 16 and 12.

I have had a great interest in the search for extra-terrestrial intelligence since I was a little boy.

I am 48 years old and have retired from the IT industry. I was working for the largest Telecommunications company in the Southern hemisphere (23 years is enough I reckon). I am, however, a musician, and play in a rock band which keeps me off the streets!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I have always been a firm believer in the idea that there are other intelligences in the universe and wanted to think that there were people like me who felt the same, but I was pretty much "up against it" when I was a young student. So many narrow-minded "Sceptics" out there. I wanted something to showm people that there is a strong reason to believe and to assist in this, but before the internet, I felt like I was banging my head against a brick wall.

Nothing I had seen had really got my juices flowing until I saw the movie 'Contact' with Jodie Foster. Seeing how hard it is for people to gain any form of credibility to be able to fund the project for SETI, I believe that if my computer can help out in any way, then, so be it!

I strongly believe that if we are to be contacted by other worlds, it would be primarily from a signal of some sort. I do think that inter-stellar travel is something that would have to be a shared technology and one that would be transmitted to us to further our knowledge.
