Profile: kitten

Personal background
I'm kitten. I like cats, swords, coffee, and bitching. I dislike pretty much everything else. Remember your training and you will make it out alive.

Anything you really want to know can be found out at mirrorshades, at the walled city.

At 27 I'm the technical director for a VoIP company, which is not exactly my long-term career but does let me play with fun technology.

I have a cat named Molly, a Volvo named Angela, and a girlfriend who shall remain nameless. When I'm not griping about idiots or screwing around with computers I'm dancing at Atlanta's various gothic clubs.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'll have you know that before the switch to the BOINC client, I had something like 6 years' time accumulated, and thousands of workunits, on SETI@home, the first thousand units of which were crunched on an ancient 133mhz laptop, my primary machine at the time (mid 2001, I believe). The rest were various home machines, or work machines I'd commandeered.

Sometimes people ask me why I don't put the cycles to a more realistic, down-to-earth goal, like protein folding or something. I am often required to point out how stupid this is -- when we find the aliens, they'll just tell us how to cure whatever disease or fold whatever protein. You betcha.
