Personal background
I was born in 1977 in Germany. I am studying Computer-Science in Hamburg. My hobbies are fisching, programming and roleplaying games of all types. When i was a teenager I wanted to become an Astronaut and fly into Space. So i started to read and watch everyhng about Spacefilght and our Galaxy I could lay my hands on. I also developed a strong interest in Scinece-Fiction. A friend of mine told me about SETI@Home and I joined, but my Computer was much too slow in those days and so I coldnt complete a lot of units and it took years for it to change. But now my Computer is fast enough and it is a lot more fun working on units for S.E.T.I..

Have a nice Day

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
At first I do think that there is life on other planets than the Earth. I belive that one day humans will be able to proof the existence of these beings. But I also know that Humanity is not yet ready for direct contact to other intelligent lifeforms as we are not even able to live peacefully on our own planet. We are a danger to ourselves and I think that contact to another species could make the situtaion on this world even worse. If one country would be able to make contact what would the other countries think, what would be there reactions and intentions? Would they think that the contact making country would try to get information about advanced technonolgy to construct better weapons? As for the fact that humans do not trust each other as far as they can throw each other contact can become a serious problem.
I think it is ok to transmit a signal into outer space but it should contain only neutral information about Earth and ist inhabitants so if another intelligent lifefrom is able to recieve and understand it the can decide abut us on their own. The transmission should include basic mathematical theories, basic chemical structures and reactions.
I run SETI@home because I am fascinated by the idea on taking part in the detection of signals sent by an alien species.
It is my most wanted dream that one day I will be able leave Earth and fly into space even if it would only be a short trip. I hope that before my life ends I might be able travel to the Moon or even Mars.
