Personal background
Hi, my name is Scott. I grew up in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. I'm a graduate of the University of Guelph with a BSc in Physics, with an undeclared minor in meteorology. After that, I attended York University for their Certificate in Meteorology program, where I graduated with both a certificate and a new wife. heh. We met the first day of my classes there, and got married the day after our last exam almost two years later. After that, I worked for the Ontario Ministry of the Environment forecasting air quality, and then we both worked for The Weather Network forecasting weather for across Canada. Currently my wife is pursuing a PhD in Atmospheric Science at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, while I'm working as a lab technician.

I've always been interested in space and space travel, however I wasn't too interested in studying science or math in elementary or high school... even though I seemed to have a talent for it. In fact, I found school boring, so I focused more attention on science fiction and fantasy, getting into roleplaying games, which I spent much more time on than my homework.

Even going into university, I still wasn't really interested in studying science. I entered into the psychology department (with the intent of ending up as a parapsychologist!), however, the astronomy course I took my first semester showed me my true calling. I quickly transfered programs and I guess the rest is history. heh.

I found out about SETI@home several years ago... I can't actually remember when. 7 years? 8? 10? How long has it been going? *shrug* Anyways, I've kept it running on my computer for as long as I've known about it.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Why do you run SETI@home?
I want to be part of this grand search. There has to be other civilizations out in the galaxy. So, since the government people feel that money is best spent elsewhere, I'm going to give my personal resources over to the project.

2. What are your views about the project?
It's possible that those in our area surpassed radio communication long before we started looking, so we missed it, or they haven't yet invented radio, or they use completely different forms of communication... but the search is still worth it.

3. Any suggestions?
Uhm... I don't think so. I haven't yet found out what these new "credits" are for. It's possible I just haven't looked in the right place though, but I wouldn't mind knowing about that.
