Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run this project because it's the only thing a simple not super-rich person can do to help the search for extra-terresterial life... Furthermore I'm convinced that our future is in space, and assuming we'll find some form of alien life (even microscopic) in the next 50 years, this would boost public attention for space travel and technology. It would then make it easier to get money and funds from governments and so on.
Last but not least, I'm guessing that scientists who do this kind of work are often made fun of, so one can only respect their determination to explore, even when it might be well possible that any breakthrough will not be for the next generation or even the next generation after that.
