Personal background
I have recently become obsessed with cake. My wife made this incredible yellow one the other night. It\\'s almost the high point of my day. I never was much of a cake lover before. I don\\'t know what\\'s happened. But I love it. We have the yellow one in a cake holder -- a thick glass one just like the ones you see on counters in classic American diners -- on the kitchen counter. It\\'s rapidly disappearing. My quality of life will diminish when it\\'s gone. But I will be sated.

When I\\'m not enjoying cake, I calculate things with quantum Monte Carlo methods. This pays the bills. The things I calculate are properties of hadronic systems and nuclei. As a side project, I\\'ve been studying loop quantum gravity. It\\'s pretty interesting. And less frustrating than thinking about the Oil Junta that has seized control of the US government and the figurehead of a leader we have.

I was born in Suffern, New York. Can I get a shout out? It was made famous a few years back when it featured in a Sex and the City episode. I\\'m sure you saw it. All the SETI@home types must be into SATC.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Because I don\\'t play the lottery.
2. I like the oblique view the best. Though the bottom view isn\\'t that bad either.
3. For what?
