Personal background
Hi all,

I'm from the USA ... a small farming town in Indiana ... I have one computer with a 2.40 gig Quad Intel processor (which runs 4 seti tasks at once and it's overclocked so it churns out SETI tasks at a pretty darned good rate for just one 'puter) and 4 gigs of RAM ... I have run SETI for years and years ... I think I'm approaching 20 years ... but so many credits were lost when they changed to BOINC ... dunno how many folks are still around who remember that ... but now after the years with BOINC, I'm approaching 5 million units completed ... I know, 5 million ... for one guy that's not bad imho

As far as extraterrestrial life, I am of a mind that there is intelligent life out there and I will point to the Drake Equation for a scientific answer if needed and will simply say "I certainly hope there is something better than us in the universe because if we're the only and the best life-form available then this is one big waste of an effort as far as evolution goes (no, I do not believe in a god)". I also think the SETI idea of having people like us run the gathered data at home on our lil puters was pretty brilliant as opposed to trying to get super-computer time. Considering the expense of super-computer time as well as the common and ignorant bias against any project that mentions life in this universe aside from our own and those people doing whatever they can in their feeble little power hungry lives to stop anything mentioning life in this universe aside from our own, the entire attempt becomes a pain in the ass and futile. So I'm happy to help.

Of course, people who find out about the other home-computing-projects available through BOINC will automatically ask, with a superior and smarmy tone in their voice, "Well, I think it's a waste of time doing this project to find 'little green men' rather than contributing to the attempt to cure cancer. Only a selfish stupid tool would be in favor of trying to find little green men over a cure for cancer." To which I will answer, "When we find (note 'when' not 'if') extraterrestrial life, they will no doubt be far more intelligent than us and will already have a cure for cancer along with lots of other cool stuff so it's a big win-win as far as I'm concerned."

I think this year I will finally make a New Year's resolution to spit on anyone using the phrase 'little green men' whenever extraterrestrial life is mentioned. Maybe a big hot loogie in the face will open their mind enough to consider the possibility.

Other than that, I lead a quiet life I suppose and enjoy guitar, reading, and collect concert bootlegs. I teach chess part-time and work on becoming an author who makes enough money to support themselves. I love chess though I am not a great player. My favorite openings are thew King's Indian Defense, the Closed Sicilian, the Najdorf Sicilian, and the Ruy Lopez facing the Sicilian / Rossolimo Variation (or vice versa).

The handsome face you see in the picture is not me but my best friend Addison, or Addy for short. His full name is "1060 West Addison" and if you don't immediately know that address then Google or Bing it. I no longer watch sports on TV since I finally got tired of the hypocrisy of performance-enhancing drugs and the governing bodies of these sports saying they care and are doing something about it. And in the end, the Lance Armstrong revelation and stripping of his Tour de France titles finally did it for me. I really thought he was clean, I believed him, and so that is it. I rarely watch television as well. I'll download documentaries (and some films) from the internet on subjects that interest me (UFOs, End Times (I'm not a religious nut and am actually an atheist but I like a good story and these are good stories I enjoy), WW1 Fighter Planes and trench warfare, Governmental Lies and Conspiracies, Classic Albums (background, how they were made, etc), Historical Bios, Film History and Behind the Scenes and Bios, Bilderberg/Trilateral/New World Order, Books/Author Bios, and that kind of stuff.

Well this is too long and silly, like anyone is ever going to read it even.

Take care and good luck,
cormac
