Personal background
I'm a plain and simple mental from Germany.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
To be honest, I don't know why I run Seti. I mean, there's Alien life, that's for sure, but I don't think it'll be found that way. The chances are small.
And if it would be found, I don't think that would make anything better. Different maybe, but not better.
There've been times, where I thought maybe it could help me to grow personaly to see the universe out of an other perspektive (If the Aliens would be found), and that I could partizipate of theire knowledge (All those new books and films or whatever they have...), but now I sometimes think, that I might become too old for changes like that. And because I wouldn't be the only one trying to do the same thing, I would burn my wings like a moth in the swarm surounding the fire, so to speak.
Most people in a goldrush die poor. The ones going rich are those who have immense luck or no scruple.
And then there would be those maniacs, who would want to tell the Aliens the "Words of god" and such shit. And 1,2,3 there would be a war, like always.
In a way, that's very boring.
So why I run Seti?
I think because of my childhood, when I dreamed about foreign lands and cultures and adventures and such stuff. Grown up now, the world seems so small, too small for my dreams. - The world is not enough anymore.
Running Seti makes me feel, that there's still a glimm chance of real adventure.
And also I would like to see the stupid faces of all those stupid and sometimes powerful and dangerous people whose mind don't reaches above their own infantile little interests, and is not open for an bigger perspective like that.
To find Alien live would not make things better, just a little different, out of some perspective. But I believe, that's just the kind of little difference, I realy would like. - So it would make thing's "better". I think, any difference like that would be better. For my live, and for the world.
On the other hand, it's just cool to help explore the Universe, and to have Signals on my computer, which are that uniqe. Watching the Seti-Screensaver is like watching into fire. - It's faszinating.
And because of that, Seti is my primary BOINC-project. - I run the others only, if Seti has no work.
I hope all that doesn't sound too pessimistic, or agressive, but I just believe, it's realistic. - Sadly.
