I am Abhishek Nayak from Odisha,India.I have just completed my under graduation in mechanical engineering.I am presently preparing for an MS course.
BOINC consumes a lot of hard disk space and memory.Even heavy duty computers would hang and crash if the software is not handled properly. The software sometimes heats up the processor so much that the side cover of the cabinet needs to be opened.I have 3 fans installed inside the cabinet.
The computer uptime is close to 83.3% during winters, but during summer i cannot keep the computer switched on for long period.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1) why do you run seti@home?
ans) i run seti@home for the simple reason that i want to contribute towards seti's search for extraterrestrial intelligence
2)What do you like about seti@home?
ans)the fact that Seti@home allows any one with a personal computer and an internet connection to contribute towards advanced scientific research.
3)What are the thing you don't like about Seti@home?
1) The BOINC software eats up most of my CPU and GPU processing power. So if i have to do any work then i have to suspend the BOINC software.Even functions like "Run based on preference" simply does not work as the CPU suspends the operation,So i am left with no option but to choose "run always".
2) One peculiar problem which i find mostly with Seti@home project is that unlike other project this one generates a lot of computing error.
3) Unlike other projects Seti@home takes a lot of time to update status and credits
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
