Profile: Crux Terminatus

Personal background
I'm a 30-year old guy from Denmark. I work in a concert venue where we have approximately 120 concerts or shows each year. I am in charge of getting the events in sale and afterwards selling the actual tickets in our box office.
My hobbies include Music, computers, writing and nature. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends but I also love diving into an exciting book or computer adventure.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Like many others I believe that we CANNOT be the only "intelligent" lifeform in the universe. With the amount of solar systems and the mix of planets in each, it is almost certain that somewhere else there must be another form of life.

I imagine that if another civilization exists - they must be pretty much in the same situation as we are, or at least they are on the same path. Whether they have progressed further than us in evolution or they haven't gotten as far as us - that's the interesting question. But if we imagine they are as evolved as we are, then they are propably searching for other life right now as well.
Should we be afraid ? I don't know. I guess the biggest problem will be communication - if something is misunderstood between two lifeforms it could go wrong. But my general belief is, that they are not any more hostile than we are. As to whether we should transmit a beacon, I don't see why not.
If we want to discover we have to be discovered as well.
The information sent is a little bit more tricky because we have no clue how another lifeform "senses" - we don't even know if they have senses in the same way as we do. But to cover as many areas as possible I guess a visual and aural ( don't know if that's a word (o: ) signal is easiest to send which also has a chance of being understood.

I am fairly new in this, so I don't know how much of help one single user can be, but none the less I believe that if we all pitch in, we can actually get results done - and I think the project show just that. This is why I wanted to "do my part" as well. I encourage everyone to think about what their opinions are regarding extra terrestrial life and the search for it. If you - as I - believe that we can have a useful relationship with another civilization, then we need to find it. And one of the ways we can do that is by joining the seti@home program - however small the contribution might seem - it's still a step on the way.
