Personal background
I am a web designer and graphic artist at the McDonald's Corporation in Illinois, USA. I've processed 80 units since being hired here 2 years ago on my Pentium 4, 1.4 Ghz. I miss my Mac G3 at my previous job that processed units in 14 hours rather that 38 hours like they do now on my PC. I just bought my first telescope - a starter scope, 114mm newtonian (Celestron)!!!!!!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Humans should not advertise our presence. If so called civilized people still make war against each other and we are only doing what we have done better than in the past, then an advanced race might still be aggressive and so we should be cautious talking our first step into the dark ocean of night. Plus we're not sure of our own capabilities as a species let alone being able to deal with an alien form of life - perhaps unrecognizable to us in the first place.

I think SET@home is a cool idea for analyzing data, but I think the secret messages from aliens will come in a more subtle, possibly subatomic form. Data traveling at the speed of light would be too slow.
