I am connecting from Alpine Oregon (near Corvallis OR USA). I have reciently added SETI@Home to my small network ad and configuring it to run on the 6 computers I use to run the non profit foundation I founded a few years ago.
I enjoy looking at the stars and wondering when? Where?
The Stenhammar Foundation helps other non profit groups who are to small to have a full time IT staff. We focus on Bill of Rights issues and Freedom & Liberty Webs.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I am certain that life exists in the universe.
2. As for when and how? Not sure - It is a very large place "out there" - so large in fact I think it is hard for humans to imagine. I know the size and time and distances involved in considering the vastness space are hard for me to wrap my brain around.
3. I think we should transmit a signal. Sending launguage, music and math. Math is universal and music will make them know we have a creative side.
I run SETI@Home because I want to support the SETI Project and to keep the ET and ETBE issue firmly grounded in science. Science fiction is fun but science is real life.
The only suguestion I may make - and I am not qualified to write such a program or fully understand the implications - but having an alternate look for the screen saver graphics and or additional types of displays with the Star map or somthing like that would be great.
Of course I know my screen does not realy need to be "saved" { as a 44-year old who has been doing IT since before we called it IT - I do remember the RGB and CGA Monitors with burn in } But I do like the "Eye Candy"
Another option would be to have the screen saver OK so-called screen saver be able to play music or MP3 files while it does its work.
- Teach you to ask - Any suguestions?
Thank you for SETI@Home and the other great add on aps.
