Personal background
Hi,
I am 29 from the UK (Scarborough, North Yorkshire)
I'm a Electrical Maintenance Engineer which to be honest is getting boring i feel i need a new voacation in life some thing that really sparks my grey matter and give me a huge taste for life.
I have alot of hobbies, Computers, Mountain Biking, Kick Boxing Challenging Walks i.e. Mountains etc. I just completed the UK Three Peaks Challenge for charity which means you have to climb the three highest peaks of the UK in under 24 hours, Ben Nevis (Scotland), Scaffel Pike (England) and Snowdon (Wales) the time starts at the foot of ben nevis by the sea to the foot of Snowdon by the sea, so the time includes all the driving between :-) great challenge and massive sense of achievment.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Excellent idea, it shpould be compulsory all that unused proccesor power around the world wasted and for no reason this doesnt slow down your pc at all or effect your use. EVERY pc should have this installed.

My personal views are there has to be something out there without a doubt the chances of them been around at our time seems to me, to be far less likely than we think. Civilisations Rise and fall so fast compared to the big picture, After all with global warming we are on target to have wiped our selfs in around 200-1000 years time giving our total transmitting time into space around 700-1500 years thats not even a ripple in the sea of time. Hopefuly others out there dont follow are fate we dealt our selfs. Even if we only get to see and finaly show there is other life out there all this will have been worth it.

Shame us humans are restricted by money and greed, a focused world effort on projects like this, global warming, poverty and desease would solve these within 5 years. instead its like a mad tug of war on the planet with everyones personal intrests as a priority, resulting in a mess where we will all loose out. Now these problems solved would be a great message to send out to intellegent lifeforms rarther than our latest doom and gloom newsreport.

A few facts that blow my mind not really to do with seti but makes good reading of a profile hehehe.

If goverments seized all the personal wealth of the 10 richest people on the planet, i.e. Bill gates, sell his shares in microsoft empty all his bank accounts and sell all his properties, leave him with 10 million pounds which is still more than any of us will see in a life time. Take alll that cash and you can start enough projects in africa to more or less end poverty within 5 years, and all you end up with is 10 people unhappy instead of millions.

If the british goverment where to tax (note not take only tax) ALL the offshore accounts that where run through british companys (2.8 trillion £'s is stored in these accounts) noone in the uk would have to pay tax of any kind for 4 years or give the money to a third world country to clear there debts.
