Personal background
It does not seem odd to me that every man should desire to be remembered. However, it is not the remembrance that most of us hold dear. It is the idea of becoming remembered. We long to be held as greats in our own time and in all the future. However, it is almost impossible that someone should be held as universally great over several centuries.

As I sit here now, I cannot quite imagine a single feat of mine worth recollecting for any sort of audience. But still, my mind stands victim to constant attacks from my much more minor memories. It is these that I must share, being as my life in general is far to often easily manipulated when I do tend to retell it.

When I was a younger man, I heard a short story. Now, this story was about a monkey, and this monkey, he'd chase a weasel. Every day, he'd chase the weasel round and round a mulberry bush and every day the weasel would evade him. However, as the years passed the monkey became smarter and faster as the weasel became duller and slower, as is seen throughout nature. It was after this chasing and learning that finally the monkey caught up with the weasel. Upon finally catching the weasel, the monkey was startled by the pop that the weasel made on being captured. Now, when I was a younger, more naive person I took this simply as a fanciful rhyme, but I see now that it has a much deeper meaning that anyone should be able to relate to. You see, it was at this moment that the monkey saw that it was not catching the weasel that was truly important here. He saw that it was journey he made and the experience that he gained that held precedent. Here he was, truly a monkey for all seasons chasing a base weasel. He found it almost silly that a monkey such as himself should have spent so much time on such a frivolous act. And yet, it was this same learning that allowed him to see that this time he spent chasing this weasel was what gave him the insight to see his actions as he did now. And so, he came to the conclusion that the ends of these means was not that he had finally caught the weasel. This was simply the tangible reward, and even so it was not as he expected. The true ends was the experience he had gained.

This story is the only one I have ever related to any sort of audience and it shows, I believe. It has changed over time to become better yet still maintain the original quality and more importantly the basic idea. I pray that all of my stories can do something like this, though in all actuality I cannot believe they will. However, such metamorphoses is necessary within real literature when we truly look upon it as a whole. It a message does not change in some way then it becomes useless in the scope of things. Of course, it's also important to remember that without the integrity of the original message remaining in tact, it is essentially smeared and stretched beyond its original usefulness and becomes a means through which any educated mind, however sharp or dull, can justify a relation between nearly any topics without making a legitimate point. Of course, I can only hope that there remains some type of school system in which students spend late nights finding and quoting correlations between dull ideas for at least the length of time that my little nothings remain.
