Personal background
I'm from the US midwest originally, went to school in Colorado, and am currently living in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I'm a rescue helicopter instructor pilot for the US Air Force. In my free time I enjoy freelance computer programming, camping, and hiking.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
"Team Lyons" consists of myself and my son Aidan (see picture)...my wife just can't seem to get into the whole computer revolution mindset...but I've got a few more years to work on that.
I believe that SETI is a very important project for the WORLD to be undertaking. It is only a matter of time before we wake up and find that we are truely not alone in the vastness of space. SETI@Home is a vital link to continue the research which runs independent of government $.
I am conserned that many people are VERY unprepared to face the possiblility of ET life. It may call to question too many core beliefs..."the Bible doesn't speak of Martians being created on the 8th day..."
There really is little need to dedicate resources to transmit beacons away from Earth as our radio waves have been beaming out for decades already. If they are there and listening in a way that we do, they WILL find us.
I run SETI@home because of 2 reasons. 1 - I belive in the cause. 2 - I think the screen saver is pretty cool to see crunching numbers (pretty petty isn't it?)
