remember the first time the first episode of Star Trek was broadcast on 9/8/66
-- I wasn't an adult, but I was old enough to realize how cool Captain Kirk
was.
Occupation: Disabled -- Crazy and crippled.
Interests & Hobbies:Â
Reading (mainly non-fiction right now, but Science Fiction and
good drama rate high as well);
Egyptology;
Volcanology;
Comparative religions;
Art history;
Jewelry & metal-working;
Society for Creative Anachronism-learned arts: Calligraphy &
Illumination; costuming (really fancy stuff); woodworking; heraldry; cooking;
and
anything else that
looks interesting.
Philosophy of Life:
- Laughter is what you do to stop the hurting;
- Pass the good that happens to you along to as many people
as you can;
- (and most
important) "TAANSTAFL" -- There Ain't Any Such Thing as a Free
Lunch.Â

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
Ever since I was a teenager, I’ve taken for granted that we were not alone in the universe, that it was hubris to even think that we were alone, and that someday we would make contact with that other intelligent life. SETI is the first great leap in that discovery process.
Until a few years ago, I never thought I would have an opportunity to participate in humankind’s next great adventure. After all, my talents tend toward the sort of human sciences and crafts not currently useful in exploration. However, owning computers has given me this opportunity. To paraphrase a real explorer, “This is one great step for humankind, even if it is a small one for a single person.â€
