Personal background
Born & raised in the Northern Wilderness of England, I moved to Surrey where I lived for nine years before going to University. I studied for the First Year of a Biomedical Science degree at Sheffield Hallam University and left to study Astronomy/Biology/Geology at the University of Hertfordshire. Again I left and now work for a Telecomms company as a Business Analyst.

I am shortly starting a module in Radio Astronomy (through www.astronomy.ac.uk) to revive my academic and personal interest in Astronomy & to free me from my current state of intellectual isotropy.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I strongly belive that there is intelligent life somewhere else in the Universe, there is no valid reason to believe that we are in any way special. Whether or not this life is in a form which we could communicate with or detect using our current level of technology and scientific understanding is another matter altogether.

Furthermore I think that as a species we have a lot of hurdles to overcome before we will be able to travel vast distances in search of extraterrestrial life and equally as many hurdles to overcome before we are worthy of making this search. I hold little regard for the UFO phenomenon and believe that at least 95% of cases have a simple explaination or are purely hoaxes. As for the remaining 5% - I'm sure there are plenty of things which we do not yet understand which could account for these.
