Profile: Atomik

Personal background

I come from town Poznan in Poland (Europe).

My background is Technical University of Poznan. I have studied automation, digital hardware designing etc.

It was long time ago... that time such thing like PC was only a rumor :) It was a time of the first 8-bit processors so everyone was able to design his own computer, starting from processor, memory...

Also a books, I read in the past are my background:

As I was a small kid, I was fascinated by a picture story titled "Tytus, Romek i Atomek" (that last name is a ground for my nick :). It was a story about three boys (one of them - Tytus - was a monkey-boy) travelling across a space and meeteng new civilisations. As I grew, I started to read books by Stanislaw Lem, famous polish sci-fi writer. His books (especially "Solaris") caused me to think different way.

Now I am 41 years old, I have a wife Hanna and two beautifull daughters: Caroline and Maggie. I work for an IT company as system designer.

Additionally, part-time, I am involved in multilevel marketing company.

I like traveling, sailing, lakes, mountains, old civilisations, pop and clasical music.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home

I am sure, that somewhere, maybe quite close, there is an another civilisation...

Maybe only our way of thinking narrows our searches. Maybe we are searching far, far away but "aliens" ale quite close - around us.

I'd like to tell a story, that I was told by my father. It is a story about craetures called: Flatters. This story changed completelly my way of thinking and the way I look at aliens.

Imagine, there are funny creatures which live only in two dimensions. They know only width and depth (they do not know hight). Simply said, they live in 2D-world. Another words, they are like a drawings on a paper, they are complettely flat. Let's call them Flatters.

They are not able to cross a line (it is like a wall for them). When you draw a line around a Flatter, it is closed like you are closed by walls in a room in your 3D-world.

Suppose now, that you are closing one Flatter in a room (you simply draw a rectangle around him) so he cannot escape.

Next, you pick him up and drop outside a rectangle.
What happened?

For him it is a MIRACLE - he crossed a wall!!!.

   For you it is NORMAL

What's a difference?

   You know THE 3rd DIMENSION

This simple story shows, how bounded we are living in our 3D-world... so don't think, we know everything.

Anyway. From mathematical and logical point of view, this is no posibility, that we are all-alone.

I think, we MUST keep trying to search for aliens. The only question is HOW?

When I first learnd about Seti@Home program, I knew, that I MUST be involved in it. No mater what prize it gives, it doesn't mater.

By the way... About 10 years ago, I've seen an alien ship by my own eyes.
