Profile: Andrew E. Whittington

Personal background
An Entomologist (PhD) and Botanist by training, with Evolutionary Zoology, Geology, Geomorphology and Meteorology in my degree, I have a strong interest in Planetary Science and have studied S283 Planetary Science though the Open University (UK) which includes a half year of Astrobiology.

Being familiar with the extremes in which life on Earth can survive, leads me to believe that it is likley that we will find life elsewhere in our Solar System and certainly beyond it.

I\\'m a great fan of Carl Sagan and read his books as a teenager. The SETI concept has consequently always made good sense to me and has my whole hearted support. Quite what we will do when we do find ET life has to wait for that moment - but as a trained Taxonomist, I hope I have a shot at naming and classifying the beasts.....

How we will react to Intellegent life, is another matter, which will require very careful consideration. We should not head into this in an arrogant manner - we may be surprised!
