I am currently a student at the University of Toledo. I am majoring in 4-9 Math and Science Education. I have been amazed by astronomy for some time, but it really came out when I took 2 astronomy courses at the University; Intro to Astronomy and Current Topics of Astronomy. Hopefully I will get a chance to take more astronomy courses down the line.
I would say the movie Contact gives me hope that SETI will succeed. I believe there is other life out there or else this vast universe is just "an awful waste of space". Science first began to explain the world around us and I believe Science should always be for the pursuit of truth.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@home because:
1) It runs as a screensaver so I don't have to do much(very practical).
2) I believe that there is other life out there
3) SETI needs help analyzing their huge amount of data or else it's going to waste
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
