Profile: Barry E. McClung

Personal background
I work as a Paramedic in a suburban/rural county near our State Capitol (Austin, TX). I have been in EMS and Fire Suppression for over 20 years.

When I'm not at work, I prefer to spend my time with my wife and my 2 kids. When I'm not at the house, i'm usually either at our ranch, doing repairs or working with my cattle. When I'm at the ranch at night, I'm usually sitting out with my old Celestron telescope.

I also like to hunt and fish, and I am an avid competion pistol shooter, and engage in Cowboy Action Shooting events.

I love to read, and have a extensive and varied home library.

I am an avid audiophile, interested in several genre of music, especially Jazz.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
We would have to be pretty arrogant to believe we are the ONLY intelligent life in something as large as our Galaxy, let alone as nearly infinite as the Universe surely must be.

I am not really sure when or how we will discover SOLID evidence of intelligent life on another world, but I believe it will be SOONER rather than later.

I would like to be the person to have assisted in discovering it, though.

I run SETI@home in order to (hopefully) aid in discovery of ANYTHING of scientific value. I think SETI@home is a very worthwhile and important effort, and MUST be continued no matter what it takes.
