Personal background |
This System is an old Siemens-Nixdorf Server based on Intels i430NX Chipset. The mainboard (Siemens Systembaugruppe D823) features two Socket5 and 8 SIMM PS/2 72-Pin Slots. Although the System should NOT support EDO-DRAM it seems to run smoothly. The Mainboard features a non-standard AT Auxiliary Power Supply Plug, which demands 3.3V. Since no normal AT PSU will support that voltage i used my switching Power Supply Manson EP-925 and an old P9 Plug from a defunct AT PSU to get those 3.3 Volts for the I/O Subsystem and the two processors. System won't post without that. Note that many manufacturers used to implement proprietary power pin configurations to prevent users from upgrading. I also had to modify my DELL ATX Server (Pentium PRO 200/1MB) to work with a standard PSU. Additionally to that, several condensators and a cable connection have been soldered on the board with unknown purpose...
Exact System Configuration:
Mainboard : Siemens-Nixdorf Systembaugruppe D823
CPU 1 : Intel Pentium Processor, 90 @ 100MHz
CPU 2 : Intel Pentium Processor, 90 @ 100MHz
RAM : 4 x 16 = 64MB EDO
GFX : Elsa / s3 Trio64
HDD : WDC 850MB
PSU 1 : Standard AT
PSU 2 : Manson EP-925 to support 3.3V for the non-standard AUX Plug
Thanks to Ultron for providing me with the board, the two processors as well as 32 out of 64MB of system memory. This baby still rocks! =) |
