Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home

SETI THOUGHTS
I believe extraterrestrial life does exist. And I also believe we have already discovered it. When and how will we get strong evidence to support that belief is another matter. Because at this stage our SETI is like finding a needle in a haystack in a dark night, it can happen today or hundred years from now. But I do think that SETI@Home itself is a brilliant project and I hope answers to the Question will come soon. Should humans transmit signal to outer space? I think we do already. The power of radio waves emitted from Earth (TV and radio stations etc.) are equal to a power of a Sun-like star. If somewhere there are ET-s scanning space with their telescopes then I think they would find it extremely unnatural for this amount of radio signals coming from a small, relatively cold planet like ours. And of course we sent out the Pioneer wich carries basic data about us. I don't think transmitting radio beacon for other or receiving one would be anyhow dangerous to us. As I said I believe we are "discovered" anyway. And also I think that any ET life form that is capable of causing any damage to us, being maybe hundreds or thousands lightyears from us, probably posesses technology for discovering us before we know it anyway. But if we should send out some radio broadcast for aliens, then it should be as neutral and basic as possible. Just to let them know that someone is here. I first heard of SETI and SETI@Home when the program was started, but back then I didn't have the recourses to participate. I think the idea itself is brilliant, and I hope it has positive results.
