Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
As a biologist, I have to think that life has most certainly evolved beyond earth. Making this discovery will open a brave new world along with risks, responsibilities and challenges. I can't wait. In order to begin thinking about some of the many issues that face us with this pending discovery, please consider the huge role invasive species are playing on our natural environment now. These issues will increase many fold with the discovery of life beyond earth. New Zealand is a leader in the concept of biosecurity and that is something we all need to be more aware of.

I think the SETI@home effort is one of those rare opportunities when the public can join in and help this important search and in so doing, perhaps learn to live and work together a little better right here at "home" on earth!
