BACKGROUND
I am a retired computer technician, born in 1941. I am married, live near Hastings Ontario Canada, and have one living child, and two grandchildren. I spent 5 years in the RCAF and have since held a number of positions. I am a member of OACETT and joined the Quarter Century club in 1995. Since childhood, I have always been interested in whether we have "neighbours" or were we alone in the universe. I joined the SETI project in July 1999, very shortly after it went public, as I had heard about the project for some time, and had to wait until the beta tests were completed. I ran the original SETI software through all it's iterations, and downloaded BOINC in July 2004, but went back to Classic due to problems with BOINC. I ran SETI@Home - Classic on a single computer, a Pentium 4 based system clocked at 2.8 MHz (running 24 * 7) until project termination in December 2005. I have now rejoined with the latest version of BOINC and am keeping my fingers crossed.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
SETI THOUGHTS
I have hopes that we will detect a signal from another star system, or even from a passing space ship. Any extraterrestrial signal will do, because it will for once and ever prove that we are not the only action on the block. As for US signalling THEM? Too late to worry. They already can see us - with all our lumps and warts exposed. Hopefully they will watch long enough to allow some of the more recent sensible programs to arrive and thus see that we did not destroy ourselves.
