| Personal background |
I am just one in millions that use computers for personal or professional use. On the personal side use i guess it is a method to journey into my own world, do basically what i want, write programs from my home that i am slowly transforming into a \\"smart home\\" but it really is still in its infancy, but its fun anyway.
On the professional side i have been in Information technology for 25 years. I started out as a hardware engineer on ICL 2960\\'s mainframes and then moved on to Unix boxes and finally Unix coding. My favorite OS is Solaris and SVR4 but over the years my flirting with AIX is slowly becoming a good relationship. The last main chapter in my career is Enterprise Systems Management and it is pleasing.
I was born in the UK and i have moved around with my work all over most of europe and the US with the company i work for, so i guess i am hired out by them to the highest bidders, i kind of tech hooker.
My favorite pass times apart from beer with my friends and solving the worlds problems over a long cool one has to be my Son and Daughter, perhaps Son and Daughter are the wrong words to use as we are more friends than the Father child relationship and that has made us all very close. If i could have turned the clock back i would have gone into Astronomy or one of its branches, and if i could turn the clock back further then i would have liked to have been a F1 driver, earns tons of money, live fast and die quick. |
| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I run the Seti program because space exploration has to be the real final unknown, even though we are learning as fast as our abilities allow we have barely scratched the surface. The mathematical possiblity of life elsewhere is so convincing that i could not have not participated in trying to find other intelligence. We are not alone or ever have been this i believe so much that it is a passion so even the least important attempts by me in helping find the absolute answer \\"are we alone?\\" are essential in the whole of things.
The Seti project is probably one of the most important projects mankind has started, i just wish that it will bear the fruits of discovery that can be shared by all. |
