| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I first learned of SETI@home from CNN when I worked in a large IT Command Center in 1999 (CNN was one of two authorized channels we could have on). One night while taking a break and strolling through a cubical area, I saw it running on someone's PC. I thought it looked cool ("Star Trek" in feel), and it was a screensaver that was productive. So I went home and started it up.
1. Why do you run SETI@home?
I've always been a HUGE fan of the space program. Thanks to it, we have so many cool devices which we take for granted. Since I'm no scientist nor an astronaut, this was a great way for me to participate/contribute in a section of the space program (SETI). Plus, I like the idea of my PC(s) doing constructive things when I'm not actively using it (them).
2. What are your views about the project?
I think it is a great idea! I doubt we'll ever find anything, but you never know. So I fully approve of the ongoing search for life in the universe.
3. Any suggestions?
Not at present. |
