Personal background
I've been pursuing scholarly life for the past five years while supporting myself on a part-time job as an Assistant Buyer. Lately I've been focusing on literature but I'll be returning to my Math and Physics roots soon.

Some of my favorite reading material: 1984, Animal Farm, Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, The Silmarillion, Discworld [too many to list], The Stranger, Brave New World, Dune, Contact, Job: A Comedy of Justice, Hamlet, Jane Eyre, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, and so many others.

As for music, I love evertything from Classical to Classic Rock. A few of my favourite artists include: Mozart, Beethoven, Grieg, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Pink Floyd, The Doors, Enigma, Yes, My Morning Jacket, and OMD.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm an agnostic and an admirer of Carl Sagan. I beleive that with the innumerable stars and planets out there in the plethora of galaxies the probability of life elsewhere is very high...but can we find intelligent life? Taking an optimistic stance, and assuming that there is intelligent life elsewhere...what are the chances of them being positioned close enough for us to forge a relationgship and communicate information effectively? I suppose those are questions everyone who donates the use of their CPUs for this project ponders.
My only fear is that when a fruitful discovery occurs the regime in power will conceal it from the public. After all, information is power to the oppressed, and the ignorance of the oppressed is power to the leaders. Looking around at the flawed social and political systems where oligarchies and autocracies prevail, one has to wonder if maybe some of our search should be aimed at our own planet, where intelligent life seems to be scarce. Should extraterrestrial life be found, one can only hope that they are not like humans.
