Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I have come to the conclusion that extra-terrestrial life exists but whether or not humans will discover it within the next few thousand years is unfortunately unlikely. Also, any intelligent lifeform is so far away from the Earth that by the time we receive a signal from them we will be long gone from this life. However, those reasons alone do not mean we should give up looking. Indeed, the act of searching is the joy.

SETI@home is a unique project that almost anyone, with little effort, can take part in. Though the discovery of intelligent alien lifeforms is astronomically unlikely in our lifetimes (no pun intended), the project is in no way an unfounded hope. The radio data received from space is worth analysis to the means of finding intelligence from beyond our solar system and I am very pleased to take part in it.

My suggestion for SETI@home is to continue their efforts. I have been a member for six years and I feel we are performing a common intellectual good by taking part in this scientific and Human endeavor.
