Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The Universe (and the Milky Way for that matter) is way to big for us to be all alone. I'm surprised we haven't found any life, or been found by someone already (which we might have). I don't think we need a beacon since we pretty well broadcast lots of signals out into space already. If someone could travel to us, then they already know how to find us.

I run Seti for the fun of it. And processing all that data when my PC is not doing anything else is a good way to help us find that life out there.
