Personal background
Computer nut since 1979.
Programmer or Technician or hobbiest since then.
Still dable in mainframe though its in a software emulation called Hercules.
But also play with emulations of other systems.

Involved with Seti from the 90's, was away for a bit, but im back.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Was with boinc as soon as it came out.
Would like to see mainframe options for boinc use.

I say that because 1 of my extra pc's are mainframe emulators (Hercules).
Though they are pc' they are 100% dedicated to emulation and those two pc's sit around a lot not doing much, and wont run pc apps on it if I can help it.

Do have more than enough pc's to run boinc without the above..

Though a software emulator it does run a heck of a lot faster than the real thing did when I worked on the same real setup 20+ years ago.
But thats perception not actually true and it is single user mainframe anyway.

Though experitmental, it would be a kewl thing to do.

I would probably try to do it if I tried recompling seti and etc via mainframe.
Reality is java & C and similar are available on real mainframes so its a matter of the java or C being freely available or super cheap to make it doable.

Still, it would be more of a batch processor.
