Profile: Jeff Friend

Personal background
I am a 53 year old Computer Technician, currently working for an international computer firm here in Brisbane but contracted out to the Department Of Agriculture for Queensland.

I have this belief, and I am NOT alone on this I know, that somewhere, out there in this universe, there IS another "intelligent life" planet. (I say "intelligent" in that context as some of the things Mankind has done.... Well, you get the picture). Of all the millions and millions of stars out there, planets MUST also be out theree and I BELIEVE, with all my heart, that at LEAST ONE of them supports life. Maybe like ours, maybe not as advance, maybe more advanced. Who knows 100%..

It is this belief that has drawn me to this SETI site and this project. With a broadband connection, a i9 9900K CPU and 32GB of RAM, I am going to just leave this on every hour and every day in the hopes that I can do my bit for the search for ET.

It is with a very sad heart that I bid farewell to the Seti@Home project since it is no longer sending out packets to work on. I am proud to have been a member of the community to have participated in this project for almost 20 years. I will not give up though, there are other computing projects I am on, Rosetta, MilkyWay, Universe@Home and a couple of others.

Onwards to work..

Thanks

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
In my opinion, humankind SHOULD transmit a beacon out there as if they don't, they will FOREVER wonder what, if anything or anyone, is out there. We, as a species of this vast universe, should make ourselves known to others and visa versa. You see movies where the aliens are bad guys, this would make anyone think twice about looking. But, are they bad? We do not know as we have never met one face to face.

SETI@home is running on my PC at home so I can do my part for this field of science. It is my pleasure to do this (my second monitor then has something on it too... How convenient..)
