Personal background
I'm a 24 year old computer programmer studying to obtain my degree in particle physics (geek). I enjoy books by Carl Sagan, R. Feynman, S. Hawkins, R. Kaplan and both Wired and Maxim magazines (What can I say, I'm a guy). I like moonlit walks along the beach and candlelight dinne...sorry, wrong messageboard. Where was I...OH:

***My current projects***
I program. It's boring, but it pays bills and I didn't have to resort to stripping to get through school (not that I would make any money at it)...I'm working on web apps and distance learning s/w, mostly.

***My Hobbies***
Well, I read a lot. I like going to concerts. I play drums in a mediocre rock band that plays mostly local venues. We've opened for some major acts...don't worry, I have a day job.

***About Me***
I'm a native Texan from San Antonio that like any other teenager in San Antonio migrated up to Austin (woohoo party)to go to school. I'm not a 'cowboy' by any means, but I probably have a slight southern drawl.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
...:::Does ET Exist:::...
Despite the lack of evidence, the odds of ET existing are just too high to deny. "Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence." CS

...:::Will we find it?:::...
Not in my lifetime (I don't think). Short of fossilized bacterium, maybe.

...:::Why not?:::...
Current ET projects do not have enough funding, and our technology is still very much in its infancy. More money is needed over an extended period of time to 'get the ball rolling'. Now is the time to set the stage for the future. SETI@Home is a good start, but it's not the solution. We could get 'lucky' and they could find us, too.

The search for ET isn't about success right now. It's about setting long term goals that can be achieved in hundreds of years or more. The problem with much of our government and many of our human ancestors is that there is little emphasis put on achieving something after your dead. We want it in OUR lifetime. That's the wrong mentality to solve the world's problems or create and implement creative solutions to the questions we have today. Right now, we can establish popularization and create the 'habit' of searching the stars for the good of our planet. The day WILL come when we must flee into space or face total annhilation of our planet. It's a question of 'when' and 'will we be prepared'.
