Personal background
I am from Northumberland England, near the Scottish Borders. I am a recently retired Sea Captain and Ship Owner, and have spent most of my life at sea.

My hobbies are car restoration, photography, computers and reading.

I have been married to Lilian for since 1958, and we have been together since 1952. We have a son who is an Oil Company Engineer in Paris, and a daughter who as well as being an IT/IP Lawyer, is the mother of our first grandchild Luke and grandaughter Gabrielle.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I am a firm believer that there is extra terrestrial life. It would be too arrogant for us to think that we alone have made it to an intellectual level.

In all my years at sea I have spent many hours star-gazing, apart from using them for navigation. They are so orderly and predictable that there must also be a controllable influence. What are the chances of there NOT being life out there? We can't be a chance 1 in 500,000,000,000,000,000(at least)surely.

I have been doing Seti now for some years but my old 166 MHz computer was taking 166 hours to do each work unit. I now have 64bit 3500 doing 5 units per day! I do it because I will be the one who finds it!! I expect we all think that or we wouldn't do it.

I am a team member of the Team Mini, and now in position 6 of about 53 members. In the few years we have been going we are up to 53 years of computer time already.
