Personal background |
I'm originally from Kentucky, now working in Indiana for a very, very good university with a great engineering program. I provide technical support to a few areas, most administrative and business/fiscal affairs.
My hobbies include computing, Seti@home (naturally), Lego, my family, BtVS and Angel, Sci-fi tv and books, and other geeky computer nerd related stuff.
My first 12,000 or so work units were done primarily with P90/P100/P120 and P133 machines, I'm very grateful to have AMD and Intel processors than are about 10x faster than my previous hardware.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I think life exists outside of our planet and near earth orbit. I think they'll find us, instead of us finding them. I think an alien race far superior to our own will show up one day. I think the benefits are limitless, the dangers are facing the fact that we aren't alone and never have been and coming to terms with that fact.
I don't think we should transmit anything more than what we are already bleeding out into space. Transmitting along the hydrogen line would be a good start, but perhaps light signals would make more sense in time. If we did send out info, I think it should be a "friendly" message, and maybe the location of our star, solar system or a couple of the planets.
I run Seti@home because I want to hunt for ET. I also like accumulating stats and competing with my fellow TLCers from ArsTechnica.
I think the project needs more bandwidth. I think we need optimized clients that utilize the feature sets of the various processors. I think TeamLambChop {TLC} needs more members to help crunch. I think a lot of things.
