Profile: ~Vet*Nurse~

Personal background
I'm a 43-year-old single mom and I am the Network Administrator and Director of Laboratory Services for a small veterinary specialty practice (we see birds - if it has feathers, we see it!). I live on a 10-acre horse ranch with my mom and my daughter. My mom breeds and trains "Palouse" horses - they are the old bloodlines of what modern man calls the "Appaloosa". It's just us three women running a 10-acre horse ranch, and yes, we do the repairs also - including rebuildling fencing when necessary. It's a hard life, but I live in the rurals, on an island (yes, a REAL island), and I wouldn't have it any other way, well... maybe I wouldn't be single, but I guess I'm too independent. *grin*

My hobbies you ask? Well... what else? Sci-Fi and horror movies. Books, favorite authors: Steven King, Peter Straub, Dean Koontz, Michael Crighton, just to name a few. Last, but not least of all, I love looking at the stars through my telescope. Out where I live, there's no city lights to take away from the beauty of the night heavens.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Q. Why do you run SETI@home?
A. Because I believe.

Q. What are your views about the project?
A. I think our intelligence is limited by our inability to get over the fact that we are not the most intelligent life forms in ANY universe. If we were, would we treat our brothers and sisters any different than the way we, ourselves, demand to be treated, as equals? It is our own arrogance that limits our ability to advance our knowledge or even our acceptance that there must be life elsewhere.

Q. Any suggestions?
A. Yes, mankind needs to get over their inability to comprehend, then accept that our over-confidence of our self-importance will continue to limit our chance to make a difference (mostly in reference to those in the government who refuse to acknowledge and share what they know, even when asked under the Freedom of Information Act, denial is still their unabided truth).

One last note: I cannot wait for the new SETI radio dish network to start working!
