Profile: GeoRon

Personal background
My name is Ron, and I am 67 years old. I live in Oswego Illinois with my Sweetheart, Marlene and our 3 cats Sam, Katie & Tabby. I retired 2/1/96 after 40 years with Northern Illinois Gas Company (Now NICOR Gas), the last 28 years as a computer programmer. I have been an Amateur Radio Operator (HAM) since 1958 and my call letters are K9WFY. I have been into Personal Computers since 1976 when I built my 1st computer (a SouthWest Technical Products 6800) from a kit. It only had 2,048 bytes of memory whereas my current computer (an AMD Athlon 64 3.2 GHz) has 1,073,741,824 bytes (1 Gig) of memory. It is my 13th computer since 1976. I currently spend most of my free time geocaching. My other interests include bicycle riding with my best year being about 3800 miles and my best day was 127 miles. I also am into Radio Controlled boats and currently have 5 boats. My favorite boat is a 46 inch deep V powered by a 30CC Weedeater gasoline engine. My favorite reading is books by Dean Koontz, Robin Cook, John Grisham, Isaac Asimov and Stephen King.

I recently discovered a new hobby GeoCaching. What you do is use a GPS and go out and search for hidden caches. There are over 136,000 hidden in over 200 countrys. Using the latitude and longitude, which are posted on the internet, you go out searching and your GPS will usually get you within 10 foot. The caches usually are an ammo box or Rubbermaid container hidden in a forest preserve, containing a bunch of small trinkets. You are supposed to take one and leave one of your own. My geocaching name is GeoRon.
