Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I think extraterrestrial life exists?: Yes Definatly, it has to! the universe is too large for it not to exist elsewhere.

Will we discover it?: I belive so. Provided it doesnt discover us first.
maybe it has? Maybe we just haven't gotten the return message yet? good thing we're listening huh?

Are there dangers?: Not really. Oh there could be some unforseen consequences.
But that possibility exists in everything we do. Just breathing air has unforseen dangers. Does that mean we should stop breathing? no.

Should we transmit a beacon?: Sure! The only problem I can see is. Where do we aim it and for how long? Forunatly we stream out a constant supply of radio chatter as it is now. Let's just turn up the volume! =)

Why do I run setiathome?: I like the idea of being part of a global effort to search for those other intelligences that I know must be out there. We might not be able to go "visit" them anytime soon but perhaps, sometime in the future we'll be able to send each other picture postcards!
