Personal background
Gee, how do I start? My name is Kadey and I'm a high school student. Currently, I live in Washington state, although it changes from time to time. And no, I'm not a military brat. ;)

I enjoy music, particularly rock, and I JUST started to enjoy shopping. Which probably isn't such a good thing, since I end up using lots of money. I also have a great interest in Asian culture, especially their art. I have a great love for "raku," a type of Japanese pottery, and have started my own little collection of it. I am just getting familiar with sumi-e, a form of Japanese brush painting, as well as a type of Chinese painting of which the name escapes my mind for the moment. I'm also an avid anime fan. Whee.

That's about it for now, I think. I'll let you know when my life gets more interesting.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Let's think of this from a larger point of view:

We, humans, live on Earth, one of 9 planets in our solar system. Our system centers around a star, our sun, only one of approximately 400 BILLION other stars in the Milky Way galaxy, all of which may have planets of their own spinning around them. Our galaxy, the Milky Way, is only one of perhaps 125 BILLION other galaxies in the universe. All of these galaxies, like our own, could have a similar--or even bigger--number of stars in them, with an equal chance of other planets revolving around these stars. This leads to an unimaginable number of planets...an unimaginable number of life-inhabiting worlds.

Do I think extraterrestrial life exists? Oh yeah.

But, are humans ever going to discover them? I'm not sure. While the nearest star, Proxima Centauri, is only 4.3 light years away, the nearest galaxy, the Sagittarius dwarf galaxy, is 75,000 light years away. Since we haven't made any machine that can travel even CLOSE to the speed of light, no human could live to get to the Sagittarius. If extraterrestrial life ever comes to US, well, that's a different story. Who knows how long THEY can live? And whether they're peaceful or not, I can't say. I guess we'll just have to see when--and if--we encounter anything.
