Profile: Rodger Lomberg

Personal background
I was born in the year JFK was assassinated, and in the decade he promised man would land on the Moon, also Star-Trek (TOS) first aired. I have a passion for all things Si-Fi. The idea of intergalactic space travel must be a dream of millions including me. I've been a Trekker from the first episode I saw. The newer episodes being just that bit more believable (TNG)(Voyager)(DS9) than the original series. I think that if by some miracle mankind was able to embrace the philosophy behind Start Trek we would all be a lot better for it.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I decided to run the SETI@home programme because I have always believed that in an universe so large, we could not be the only habitable planet or the only planet to contain life. I like to toy with the idea that maybe we have been put on this planet as some kind of experiment, a bit like lab rats in a maze, being watched, with all of our actions and reactions being tallied up on some gigantic score-board.
When we do make first contact, I want to be able to say that I was a part of that. I can only hope that when do make contact, we humans don't do what we always seem to do so well, shoot first and ask questions when it's too late.
