Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I think it's a good idea to transmit a beacon because we could really benefit an encounter with aliens and some of us may be wise enough to communicate with them. Nevertheless, we should warn any potential "friend" about how silly and dangerous humans are so that they take some precautions for their safety if they want to meet us.
I like the principle of SETI@HOME because most of the processors on personal computers are idle most of the time so it's a very good idea to use this waste of resources. I'm running SETI@HOME because by doing this my proc is never idle and also because it's worth doing it even if the odds are so tiny to discover a relevant signal.
