Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do believe exteraterrestrial life exists however, I feel it's likely lower forms of life such as plants, animals, or bacteria. If there is indeed a form of life out there that's even more advanced than us, chances are they've already studied us and moved on to another planet. The human race probably won't be ready for contact with ET for at least another 2000 years...hopefully by that time we will have evolved into a race worthy enough to be part of the "galactic community."

Transmitting a beacon might not be a good idea because it could be misinterpreted as hostile and spark an invation...for all we know radio signals could be as deadly to ET's as the blast wave of an atomic bomb is to us.

I feel the SETI project is doing a good job because it's just listening for them and getting the entire world involved in the search. If we do make contact, through SETI we'll all know about it and we won't have to put up with all those cheesy supermarket tabloids with the headlines about aliens at the white house.
