Personal background
Based in Germany, my first computer experience dates back to 1985, I am working with travel technologies professionally since 1992. Today I mostly work with Linux systems. I had another Seti@home account before, but could not remember the mail used for it so I registered this new one then.
From Childhood on, I liked Science Fiction, my preferred authors are Asimov (Foundation), Clarke (2001 ff.), Herbert (Dune), Heinlein (Starship Troopers), Wells (Time Machine), McAffrey (Dragonriders, Generation Warriors), Foster (Flinx), and many more... Preferred movies are 2001/2010 (waiting for 2063), Contact, Star Trek.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
So I hope that we will evolve into a space faring race one day ourselfes, though recent political development makes me wonder if we ever will achieve the level of evolution to work as one world.
Contact
That was one great movie; similarities to 2001 are purely incidential... I think?

Do you think extraterrestrial life exists? If so, when and how will humans discover it? What are the possible benefits and dangers of such a discovery?

Yes, read Asimov's Extraterrestrial Civilizations if you question this.

Maybe never, maybe tomorrow. Contact was an example. If, we would be the barbarians. If you ever saw Star Trek (I prefer the Voyager series), you will know of the prime directive...
Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find? If so, what information should we send?

No. Chances are astronomically small. I believe Quantum mechanics might be a solution to transmit small messages faster than light, the only practical way to get in touch. If so, a small message might be the prime numbers... But how would we get an answer???
Why do you run SETI@home? What are your views about the project? Any suggestions?

Because we must be aware of potential life in space, especially in case another, more advanced (maybe only technically, but not morally) appears? It is GOOD to listen. I'd be careful to point alien attention to us.
